Evans receives 2015 Veterinarian of the Year Award

Colette Johnston (left) of the Dairy Quality Center and Dr. Tom Van Dyke, (right) Manager of Merial Veterinary Services Team, presented Dr. Sam Evans (center) with a plaque honoring Dr. Evans as the 2015 DQC Quality Veterinarian of the Year. The award was presented at the 48th American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) annual meeting held September 16-18 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Sam Evans, at the age of 7, knew he wanted to dedicate his life to animals and become a veterinarian. He attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate degree in Animal Science, and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UGA's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990.

Sam married fellow veterinary classmate Kristine and opened their own clinic in Sandersville, Georgia. Drs. Sam and Kristine and their current partner have built a satellite clinic in Swainsboro, Georgia that opened in May of 2015. Their practice now employs 4 full time (and 1 part time) veterinarians. Dr. Evans says the best part of his job is the people and the interactions he has on a daily basis on farms.

The Dairy Quality Center relies on veterinarians exclusively to audit animal welfare and sustainable practices. The DQ Center and Merial applaud all veterinarians working with milk and dairy beef producers to ensure safe and sustainable food production practices.

Congratulations Dr. Evans! You are making a difference in the health and quality of life for animals on Georgia dairies!
